Frequently asked questions

Why are some of your doctors based in Ireland?

Wellster works with a network of licensed physicians based in both Germany and Ireland. The telemedical care is provided either directly via Wellster or through our European partner structure (DHMS in Ireland).

Why is that? Telemedicine in Germany is still subject to strict and sometimes inconsistent regulatory requirements. While many digital healthcare services are technically feasible, a legally secure and scalable framework is still lacking – especially for self-pay treatments, recurring therapies, or certain digital communication tools.

To ensure we can offer high-quality, GDPR-compliant, and legally sound care, we utilize the possibilities of European law – specifically, the EU directive on cross-border healthcare services.

What does that mean for your treatment?

  • All treatments are provided in accordance with recognized clinical standards.

  • Medical assessment, diagnosis, and therapy decisions are carried out responsibly and individually.

  • Quality assurance is overseen by our Germany-based Medical Board.

  • All health data is processed exclusively on servers located in Germany.

What’s the benefit? This allows us to deliver care that is clinically sound, legally protected, and flexible for patients – without compromising on quality, responsibility, or data protection.

How does treatment with Wellster work?

The process is simple, safe, and medically sound:

  1. Online medical questionnaire and/or video consultation: You answer medically relevant questions about your condition on the respective Wellster platform – discreetly and from home. A video consultation can also be booked if desired.

  2. Medical review: A licensed physician reviews your information individually – there are no automated decisions.

  3. Digital treatment: If treatment is medically appropriate, you receive a prescription. Your medication will be sent via a partner pharmacy, or you can choose to take the prescription to a pharmacy of your choice.

  4. Ongoing care: Our medical team is available to support you throughout the course of your treatment. You can ask follow-up questions, track your progress, or adjust your therapy as needed.

The result: Digital care with real medical responsibility – no waiting rooms, no shortcuts.

How does Wellster ensure medical quality?

Wellster follows a strict medical quality promise:

  • Licensed physicians: All doctors are EU-licensed, many based in Germany, others working through our structure in Ireland (DHMS).

  • Guideline-based treatment processes: Our decisions follow recognized clinical guidelines and are made on an individual, evidence-based basis.

  • Medical Board: An independent board of medical experts based in Germany develops and monitors our internal standards.

  • Training & quality assurance: Regular training, peer review processes, and documentation standards ensure high-quality care.

Who has access to my data?

At Wellster, your data security is a top priority. Your medical data is only accessible to authorized medical professionals.

  • All data is stored on servers in Germany and fully GDPR-compliant

  • Access rights are limited to medically necessary personnel only

  • No data is ever shared without your explicit consent

Your data belongs to you – and we only use it to provide safe, high-quality care.

Are treatments covered by health insurance?

Wellster currently offers medical services on a self-pay basis. This means treatment costs are not yet reimbursed by statutory health insurance.

Why? Many digital healthcare services, especially in areas like prevention or sexual health, are not yet part of the statutory health insurance coverage catalog. We are actively working to change that by engaging with policymakers, associations, and insurers to establish fair, modern reimbursement models.

What does this mean for you?

  • You receive a transparent cost overview in advance

  • No hidden fees

  • You can pause or cancel treatment at any time

Digital healthcare should be accessible, safe, and in the long run: reimbursable. We're working on it.
